Fraserburgh Nursery Refurbishment
Burns Construction successfully completed the refurbishment of the former St Andrews School building in Fraserburgh, transforming the existing property into a modern, purpose-designed nursery facility for Aberdeenshire Council.
Previously used by St Andrews School, the building underwent extensive internal and external alterations to create a safe, accessible and functional environment for its new use.

Structural Alterations and Internal Reconfiguration
The project involved a comprehensive reconfiguration of the existing building to create the required nursery layout.
Large structural openings were formed through existing walls, while blockwork partitions were demolished and new walls constructed. A number of existing windows and doors were also replaced, alongside the formation of new accessible external entrances.
Internally, the building was redecorated throughout and new floor coverings were installed. Existing parquet flooring was carefully repaired and renewed where required, helping to retain elements of the original building.
Acoustic wall panelling was also installed to improve the internal environment, with new furniture, kitchen facilities and breakout areas completing the refurbishment.
External Works and Improvements
Externally, Burns Construction constructed a new canopy extension to the front of the building and completed a range of associated repairs and improvements.
The works included the formation of new car parking spaces, installation of new fencing and demolition of buildings to the rear of the former school. Cedral cladding was renewed and extensive pointing repairs were also carried out to improve the existing building fabric.
Together, these improvements enhanced the appearance, accessibility and functionality of the property while preparing it for its new role as a dedicated nursery facility.

The Fraserburgh nursery refurbishment was successfully delivered on budget and programme, despite the challenges associated with working within a high-traffic residential area and coordinating multiple trades throughout the project.
Careful planning and site management helped minimise disruption while allowing the various structural, refurbishment and finishing works to progress efficiently.
The completed facility provides Aberdeenshire Council with a high-quality, modern nursery environment that operates separately from the main school building while making effective use of an existing property.
